CHICAGO, Ill.– Award winning radio personality Cliff Kelley was poised to host and moderate the first debate between Lance Tyson and ousted Rep. Derrick Smith for the 10th District State Representative race. While Lance Tyson confirmed his appearance, Derrick Smith declined to participate.
Rather than a debate, Kelley, will interview both candidates live on his show today, October 25, with Tyson slated to appear at 4 p.m. and Smith confirmed at 4:45 p.m. The show will be broadcast live from the WVON studio at 1000 E. 87th Street and aired on AM1690.
Since 1963, WVON 1690AM’s dynamic radio personalities and loyal listeners have made the station “The Talk of Chicago.” WVON serves as an interactive forum for the African American community to discuss social, economic, and political issues. By expanding to national audiences, the station has continued to foster public discourse.
“I want voters to be involved,” said Kelley. “I want the people to hear the facts and make informed decisions.” Kelley, fondly referred to as The Governor of Talk Radio, has moderated several political debates throughout his distinguished thirty-year career.
The Cliff Kelley Show airs on WVON from 3 – 7 pm on weekdays.
Tyson’s opponent, expelled representative Derrick Smith is under federal indictment for allegedly accepting a $7,000 bribe meant for a childcare center. Governor Pat Quinn, Secretary of State Jesse White and virtually every Democratic leader has endorsed Lance Tyson as the real Democrat running as a third party Unity Party candidate.
